for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses
U.K. Small Business Development Center - Delivers up-to-date counseling,
training and technical assistance in all aspects of small business management. SBDC
services include, but are not limited to, assisting small businesses with financial,
marketing, production, organization, engineering and technical problems and
feasibility studies. Assistance is provided to both current and potential for-profit
small business owners. The center makes special efforts to reach minority members
of socially and economically disadvantaged groups, veterans, women and the
disabled. There are no fees for consulting services or small business start-up training
programs. The center will occasionally charge a nominal fee for other training
programs. The training programs are general in nature and address small business
management issues.

America's Workforce Network - Business can access this nationwide network of
One-Stop Centers - workforce development organizations that provide information
and services to help employers find skilled workers.

Bluegrass State Skills Corporation (BSSC)- Provides training grants that create
partnerships with business and industry. Through the grant reimbursement program,
a portion of the employer's eligible costs are covered for training Kentucky residents
in job skills ranging from entry level to advanced, including pre-employment training
for prospective employees and retraining, occupational upgrade and skills upgrade
of existing employees. A Skills Training Investment Credit is also available allowing
existing businesses to recover 50 percent of approved costs for occupational and
skills upgrade training through an income tax credit.
