LINCOLN TRAIL CAREER CENTER WORKS FOR
12 ST. CATHARINE GRADUATES
BARDSTOWN,
Kentucky—Twelve December St. Catharine College sonography graduates
were beneficiaries of Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funds through the
Lincoln Trail Career Center. Eight
are already working in the sonography field at regional health care
facilities, and three more are pending hire.
The 12 graduates, who were WIA participants in the sonography program at
St. Catharine, are: Sandra
Adler of Springfield, Tonia Curtsinger of Willisburg, Lisa Edelen of
Loretto, Julita Medley of Lebanon, Tammy Scrogham of Bloomfield, Christy
Warner of Springfield, Jami McCoy of Lebanon, Tabetha Pettit of Bardstown,
and Shawna Blanford of Loretto.
The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) provides training services for adults,
laid off workers, and youth, to help them acquire skills to develop better
careers. WIA funding assisted
these students with tuition (averaging approximately $9,000 over the
entire program) and other needs such as uniforms and licensing fees.
Individual Training Accounts are awarded on a case-by-case scenario
by Client Services Managers at the Lincoln Trail Career Center.
Said Bill Pease of the Bardstown Lincoln Trail Career Center:
“Our Client Services Manager said that she had never had the
pleasure of working with such a dedicated group of individuals determined
to complete a degree program as these sonography students.
These graduates have not only made their lives better for it, but
also their communities.”
Graduates are currently working at the following health care facilities:
Norton Hospital (2), University of Kentucky Medical Center (2),
Baptist East, Clark Memorial Hospital, Lexington Clinic, and Suburban
Hospital.
Using ultrasound and Doppler, the sonographer performs exams to assist the
interpreting physicians in the diagnosis of diseases in the abdomen,
arteries, veins and heart, and to assess growth and well-being of the
fetus in pregnant women.
The St. Catharine sonography program is nationally accredited and is one
of nine programs in the country that grants as Associates of Science
degree in Diagnostic Sonography in three specialty tracts, which requires
29 months to complete.
